Rail Fest is a unique event that embodies many facets of the world of Railroading, including preservation, education, safety, entertainment, and many other rail oriented activities. Rail Fest  also incorporates many dynamic exhibits, programs and displays designed to entertain and educate the public.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a large community supported railroad event bringing together business, government, nonprofit and community organizations in order to preserve our railroad heritage, enhance the city of North Platte and provide an educational experience for our youth that is meaningful, interesting and fulfilling.

Zero Waste Program

The Original Town Association voted to make Rail Fest 2008 be a “zero-waste” event at it’s meeting Tuesday, “Following the lead given by the Union Pacific Railroad in their efforts to be environmentally conscientious, we plan to work with Keep North Platte Beautiful to make Rail Fest 2008 a zero waste event,” said Dave Harrold, chair of Original Town. Harrold said the goal of a zero-waste event is to plan ahead and distribute only materials that re recyclable or compostable. There will be no trash cans at the event. Instead, zero-waste stations for recycling and composting collection will be available. “This is a great way to show our commitment to our environment and create a living model of zero waste for those attending Rail Fest.” Harrold’s announcement was made in conjunction with  America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.

Wellness Program

The Rail Fest 2008 Wellness Education Program is structured around four of the more common components for total wellness – physical, social, environmental and spiritual.

An icon will be developed for each component. This icon will then be used to help those who attend Rail Fest 2008 quickly find the location of each component at the celebration.

Please download the file below to learn more about each component and the wellness program.
