The main rail line through North Platte is the busiest rail freight corridor in the world, processing more than 150 trains and 10,000 rail cars every 24 hours. How do they manage? Get a close up view at Rail Fest 2008. You won't believe it.

People who are dazzled by heavy equipment that can almost move mountains are in for a treat at the Rail Fest 2008 displays at Cody Park.

On display will be a truck, which is a set of wheels under a platform with springs. Rail cars sit atop the trucks. In addition, the display will feature several cutaway rail car parts that will show the workings of a train.

Displays and Exhibits

Locomotive Simulators

Rail Fest 2008 will provide many people a chance to see locomotives up close. For those who want to know how it feels to get behind the controls of an actual locomotive, there will be video locomotive simulators.

Community Connections Crew will have two computers set up at their booth at Cody Park. Each computer has special train simulator software called “Rail Driver” which uses a special locomotive control panel.

North Platte Community College will also have its mobile training laboratory on hand to promote its railroad training program. The mobile lab was purchased with a $1.9 million grant to promote rail transportation in Nebraska.

 UPRR Miniature Train

The UPRR Miniature Train is always a unique attraction.

It brings the awesome power of a full sized locomotive to a more personal level whereby children and adults can interact with each other. An excellent gathering place for people to visit and share the joy of railroading.
