North Platte’s First Rail Fest a Success!

North Platte’s first Rail Fest event in 2007 attracted more than 10,000 people from 38 states and seven foreign countries to view North Platte’s railroad operations and celebrate the heritage of this railroad town. More than 4,000 people rode the Operation Lifesaver train and took tours of Bailey Yard.

The event filled Cody Park with an atmosphere of a community celebration. Local bands provided music at all hours of the event, children were welcomed for rides and games, numerous events and displays attracted adults and a variety of foods were on hand.

When all was said and done, more people had an idea of the vastness of Union Pacific’s operations and the impact of Bailey Yard, the largest railroad classification yard in the world.

Our family had a great time and we think they need more train rides...brings back so many memories. We also enjoyed the Strong Man Contest. We were cheering on our "Thompson boys"

Didn't get to ride the train last year and am looking forward to riding it this year. I would like to know when and if Railfest will feature rides on the train again. I hope to find out by checking out the website from time to time. I worked at the Cody Park train display this summer and feel that the display has a lot to offer for residents of North Platte and the tourists and rail buffs that visit our town.
